Strathmore University, Teach For Kenya Forge Strategic Alliance

In a country where the promise of education often collides with the realities of inequality, a new partnership is stepping forward with quiet urgency and bold intent. Strathmore University, through Strathmore University Foundation and Teach For Kenya, signed a three-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) earlier this month, aimed at reshaping leadership, innovation, and education outcomes across Kenya.

The agreement establishes a collaborative framework that brings together Strathmore’s academic rigor and innovation ecosystem with Teach For Kenya’s grassroots education leadership model. As part of the global Teach For All network, Teach For Kenya is committed to advancing United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4, ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education for all.

Currently, Teach For Kenya has deployed 207 fellows across 63 low-income schools in Nairobi, Kisumu, and Machakos counties. These fellows support in-service teachers and deliver core subjects, including English, Mathematics, Social Studies, and Science, to learners from early childhood through Grade 6. Their work is anchored in a broader vision: cultivating a movement of young leaders working alongside communities to impact over 250,000 children by 2026.

The partnership will unlock new opportunities for fellows and alumni to access Strathmore’s leadership development, innovation, and mentorship platforms. It will also see the co-design and delivery of professional development programmes focused on pedagogy and instructional leadership, alongside joint research initiatives spanning education, climate, and sustainability.

Further areas of collaboration include community engagement through foundational literacy and numeracy programmes under Strathmore’s service initiatives, as well as participation in joint forums, policy dialogues, and roundtables addressing national education priorities.

Governance of the partnership will be overseen by a four-member Steering Committee, with flexibility to expand collaboration areas through future addenda.

Present at the signing were a delegation led by Dr. Edward Mungai, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Planning and Development), Strathmore University, alongside Luis Borrallo, Director, Community Service Department, and Monica Mwende Mwangi, Development Director, Strathmore University Foundation. They were joined by Yukabeth Kidenda, Founder and CEO,  Teach For Kenya, and Director of Operations, Ferdinard Arunga, both Strathmore alumni, lending the moment a deeper resonance of shared heritage and a renewed commitment to transformative impact.

The MoU signals a convergence of purpose to lead, innovate, and transform the future of learning in Kenya.
